14歳でギターを始める。
1999年ギブソンジャズギターコンペティション優勝。
2000年、オルガントリオAQUA PITのメンバーとして活動(2013年まで)。
2001年、 SONY MUSIC よりデビューアルバム 「nu jazz」をリリース。 以後10年間在籍、現在までに SONY 他から 10 枚のリーダー作品をリリース。 2002年、「Summer Madness」 リリース。 2003年、プロデューサーに笹路正徳氏をむかえてJazz'n pop リリース。 斑尾ジャズフェスティ バル出演。 2004年、リチャード・ボナ(ba)、アリ・ホニッグ(dr)をフィーチャーしたトリオアルバム"Three Primary Colors"を Ny で録音。レコーディング途中に指弾きに転向。
2005年、1年限定ユニット T K Yのメンバーとして活動。Fuji Rock Festival、東京JAZZを筆頭 に全国20箇所以上のジャズ・ロックフェスティバルからのオファーにより出演。 2006年、アコースティックメインのアルバム"3,2,1"リリース。 拠点を東京から湘南エリアに移す。
2007年、海辺の1日を表現したコンセプトアルバム「Beautiful Day」 をLAで録音。 エンジニアにアル・シュミットをむかえ、リンカーン・ゴーインズ(ba)、スティーブ・フェローン (dr)をフィーチャー。リリース後はトリオで全国ツアーを開催。 アジア最大級のジャズフェス"Java Jazz Festival "にリーダーユニットで出演。
2008年 全国47都道府県ソロツアーを実現。 2009年 イタリアツアー、香港ジャズフェスティバル出演。
2010年、フレンチカリビアンのミュージシャン達とレコーディングした「Jam Ka」発売。 グアドループの民族音楽グオッカの太鼓(ka)がフィーチャーされたこの作品で独自の世界観を展開。Blue Note NY& Tokyo 、生まれ故郷秋田で発売記念ライブを行う。
「The Best」も同時発売。
2014年 、オーガニックジャズをコンセプトにアルバム"GNJ" を T5 JAZZよりリリース。
2016年、Flyway LABEL を設立。
第一弾作品としてパリで録音された「Jam Ka」の続編、「Jam Ka Deux」をリリース。 この作品をきっかけにParisやMunichのジャズクラブ、Martinique Jazz festivalに出演。 2019年 、Jam Ka Deux(17年)ツアー直後のスタジオセッションを収録したアルバム"Jam Ka 2.5"をリリース。
グォッカの本拠地Guadeloupeで行われた "Festival Eritaj"に出演。

あらゆるフィンガーピッキングのスタイルをミックスさせた独自の奏法、ジャズをベースに様々な 国を旅して得た影響や経験を音楽に採り入れながら、世界を音で繋ぐギタリスト。

初のソロギター作品『Your Smile』を2023.9.20にリリース。
自身のSolo やTrio の他に様々なコラボレーションを行う。

Biography

Yosuke Onuma is one of Japan's foremost jazz guitarists.

He started to play the guitar at the age of fourteen under the influence from his father. In 1999, he won the grand prize at the Gibson Jazz Guitar Competition in Japan,and In 2001, he came out with his debut album, "nu jazz," through Sony Music Japan. After releasing three groove jazz albums, in 2004 Onuma released his ground-breaking fourth album, "The Three Primary Colors," recorded as a trio with Richard Bona (bass) and Ari Hoenig (drums) in New York. This highly acclaimed album showed a change in Onuma's style which still holds to this day; a style characterized by exclusively using finger-picking - abandoning the use of a guitar pick entirely.

After residing in seaside from 2007, Onuma was fascinated by surfing. It became the other important part of his life besides the guitar. Taking inspiration from the ride on the surf, he released his sixth album, "Beautiful Day." He worked on this album with engineer Al Schmitt in the surf-culture mecca of beachside Los Angeles. In 2010, Onuma recorded his seventh album “Jam Ka” in New York with Guadeloupean musicians using a Caribbean rhythm from Guadeloupe called “gwo ka.” He has played with the band at Blue Note NY and Blue Note Tokyo in the same year. Onuma has, in fact, created a fresh sound, not only a fusion of creole music with his many years of experiences of groove jazz but also a perfect union of the sounds of the sea and the music of the guitar.

In 2014, Onuma has released “GNJ,” his ninth album under the concept of organic jazz with fine Japanese musicians.

Onuma came back to Jam Ka project in 2016. He made a recording of the second Jam Ka album “Jam Ka Deux” in Paris with a producer Jacques Schwarz-bart. Most of the previous members are reunited for the first time in six years. New talent Grégory Privat on piano contributed to the album remarkably. Herve Samb and Simone Schwarz-bart as guest performers. After releasing the albums, Yosuke and Jam Ka band has made a tour in Japan, Munich and three times in Paris. The band has been invited to Martinique Jazz Festival 2018. Yosuke Onuma is the first Japanese musician who played at the festival in their history.

His new work “Jam Ka 2.5 The Tokyo Session” (2019) is a studio session album which the band has recorded right after their Japan tour in 2017. It contains 5 tracks from “Jam Ka” and “Jam Ka Deux” including a medley duet with Grégory Privat featuring his composition “Le Bonheur” and a free improvised track. The album title represents the music on the way to the next step.

Biographie

Yosuke Onuma débute sa carrière chez Sony Music en 2001 et y restera 10 ans. Il a sorti 10 albums en tant que leader chez Sony et autres maisons de disques. Il crée son propre style à la suite de sa rencontre, lors d’un enregistrement, avec le bassiste camerounais Richard Bona en 2004. Il s’inspire ces dernières années de la World Music, influencé lors de ses nombreux voyages dans le monde et, poursuit ses activités de créations reliant le monde. Sort en 2010, l’album "Jam Ka" enregistré avec des musiciens Caribéens français. Il y développe sa propre musicalité en intégrant les percussions Ka du Gwoka. Cette même année, il joue à l’occasion de la sortie de son album, au Blue Note de New York et de Tokyo. Pour fêter ses 15 ans de carrière, il lance son propre label « Flyway Label » avec un nouvel album "Jam Ka Deux", la suite de "Jam Ka" enregistré à Paris.

Après la sortie de l’album, le guitariste faisait les concerts au Japon, Munich et trois fois à Paris. Il a été invité pour le Martinique Jazz Festival 2018 dans lequel il était le premier japonais qui a joué à ce festival.

Son dernier œuvre, “Jam Ka 2.5 The Tokyo Session” (2019), a été enregistré en style de live-session juste après la tournée japonaise en 2017. Les cinq morceaux ont été choisis depuis “Jam Ka” et “Jam Ka Deux” pour ce disque. Il y a aussi un pot-pourri en duo avec Grégory Privat pour son titre “Le Bonheur” et une improvisation. Le chiffre nommé sur cet album signifie que son projet est en cours d’évolution.

La nouvelle tournée japonaise est prévu au mois d’août 2019 avec Jam Ka quartette, Reggie Washington, Sonny Troupé, Grégory Privat.
